sending letters contaminated with poison to president obama and senator roger wicker. this move cummings just days after the letters were intercepted in mail sorting facilities for the white house, capitol hill. nbc's tracie potts has the details. >> reporter: richard what led them to mississippi, was the setting on not just two, but three letters wents too a mississippi judge, signing those letters to become a silent partner i am kevin curtis and i approve this message. that suspect called kevin curtis has been arrested in his home in tupelo, mississippi. the authorities were led there as a result of the investigation. three letters positive for the potentially dangerous and deadly substance ricin. wicker, president obama and the judge's all postmarked april 8th from memphis, according to authorities. what they don't know is why he did. there's little information, little evidence on what his motive could have been, what we do know, it's had a huge impact here on capitol hill. other offices including senator richard shelby checked after reports of suspicious packages. both here on capito

. today president obama plans to travel to boston for a memorial service. and susan mcginnis is in boston. susan, good morning. >> reporter: anne-marie, good morning. a man in this lord & taylor surveillance video is seen dropping a bag near the finish line, and the image matches the account of images of those who saw a man seen leaving the scene. this could be the first major break in this case. the scene of the second bomb that went off during monday's boston marathon may give us our first look at the suspected bomber. sources tell cbs news that a security cameras at a lord & taylor store captured a man leaving a bag in the area just before the blast. the suspect is described as a young white man seen carrying a back pack and talking on a cell phone. sources say he was wearing a black jacket, a gray hoodie, and a white baseball cap turned backward on his head. just after the first bomb went off, the suspect left the scene. moments later the second bomb detonated. investigators are also looking at cell phone records hoping to match one of the calls to the man seen in the video. >>

, as well as president obama. the information that we received from the fbi of the content that those two letters contained, the way that the letters were typewritten to those two individuals, the postmark similarity that we had, it raised suspicion that there could possibly be a connection to the letter that we received in justice court. the next step that we took was a joint effort in investigating what we could about what this substance was that was inside the letter that we had. as you all know, the federal authorities released the information as far as the content that they believed was placed inside the two letters to senator wicker, as well as president obama. their team and other government officials arrived at our facility. we staged them on our north parking lot. there's a portable laboratory that was brought in. they came in and took possession of our letter, which is the justice court letter that was received on april 10th. that particular letter, content and envelope has been analyzed at the laboratory. it is not an official result that we have. we do have a result
